Street food & shared plates
Mowgli Indian Street Food delivers a refreshing take on Indian dining, moving away from the heavy, traditional curry house model and instead celebrating the vibrant food Indians eat at home and on the street. Founded by Nisha Katona, the concept centres around tapas-style ‘tiffins’ and small plates designed for sharing. Dishes arrive in charming tin containers, reinforcing the street-food inspiration while offering reasonable portions that make it easy to mix and match across the table. It’s a relaxed, sociable way to dine and the staff were particularly helpful in guiding how many plates to order per person.

The menu is simple and approachable, though it doesn’t indicate spice levels. Fortunately, the team are more than capable of advising based on your heat tolerance. An upsell sharing menu is a thoughtful addition, complete with illustrations that make group ordering easier. The drinks menu also features helpful illustrations showing glassware and an indication of volume, making it easier to visualise what you’re ordering. Interestingly, the wine list leads with bottle prices rather than by the glass, subtly encouraging a more communal, sharing-focused experience.

Atmospherically, Mowgli strikes a balance between casual and considered. Decorative lighting adds warmth and character, while the open window into the kitchen brings energy and a sense of theatre to the space. A playful monkey illustration, a nod to The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling, interacts cleverly with the menu headline, reinforcing the brand’s storytelling and Indian heritage influences. Overall, it’s a vibrant, well-executed concept that feels authentic, engaging and perfect for relaxed shared dining.
