Welcome to Adam’s house. Who’s Adam?
House of Adam is a charming boutique hotel located in the heart of Amsterdam’s historical area, promising to be ‘a hotel ideal for travelers seeking both comfort and character’, and it certainly did deliver.
Set in a beautiful 1886 townhouse, a stone’s throw from the Botanicus Hortus Botanicus, it had plenty of sweet historical character mixed with contemporary clean design. Upon stepping through the main entrance we were greeted with a holographic screen and check in instructions, it appeared Adam and his concierge team were digital. Interestingly, they were still real people in a white room somewhere centralised, providing a slightly clunky check in process, as they unlocked doors for us via CCTV.

It was pleasantly surprising that despite the holographic screen for staff interactions, that the assistants were still human and not yet completely virtual / AI. Hotel stays are intimate and personal, there was still some comfort in knowing there were humans to speak to behind the screens. I presume serving the Adam Hotel group that this ‘virtual’ solution is more cost effective than a permanent front of house member on the ground but was this halfway house solution missing the mark?

The branded touchpoints within the hotel were clean and sort of sophisticated. A neat illustration of the typically dutch townhouse adorned most branded touch points and there were some nods to Adam throughout. Namely, the door hanger to let Adam know if he was welcome to enter to service the room, or not. Perhaps somewhat controversially though, spiral binding should be reserved for academic documents not hotel stay guides.
The hotel offered us a peaceful and tranquil stay in Amsterdam. We even took the hotel branded bicycles for a spin around town!
