Grind is a vibrant all-day café-bar. Grind now has 14 locations across London; its first location was Shoreditch Grind, which opened in 2011 on Old Street roundabout in Shoreditch. It was initially a coffee shop that transformed into a “café by day and cocktail bar by night.
We visited Grind, Broadgate Circle, located just steps from Liverpool Street Station, which offers a stylish setting with both indoor and outdoor seating. The coffee menu is comprehensive, featuring a wide range of options, from classic flat whites to beetroot and turmeric lattes. The brunch menu is good, featuring dishes such as the full English, sweet potato cakes, and other fresh, flavorful options that are well-presented. That said, portions can feel a little on the smaller side for the price. We tried the classic smashed avocado and poached eggs on sourdough. Menus are nicely presented with stepped page sizes neatly clipped with a black clip.

The décor is trendy without trying too hard, with soft lighting, blue accents, and a cool, contemporary vibe with hot pink neon lights. The service was very friendly and professional, although we’ve collectively had previous visits when the service wasn’t as attentive. The brand has engaged technology, with tablets for staff to make quicker orders and facilitate fast payment, reducing wait time for food and allowing you to move on and continue your day without delay.
Unique and unexpected moments of surprise can elevate an experience, and this came in the form of Sir David Attenborough, not in person, sadly, but his distinctive voice narrating a wildlife documentary coming through the speakers in the toilets. It was surprising. It was surreal. And above all, it was unforgettable.
