A family story of Thai flavour and tradition
There’s a playful confidence to the Giggling Squid that sets it apart in a category where safe minimalism is the default. From the moment you step inside, it feels welcoming and full of personality. On a hot afternoon, with the doors thrown open, the space is filled with florals and colour. Birdcage seating and vibrant blooms set the tone for a relaxed, Instagrammable lunch spot that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
The restaurant’s story is deeply rooted in the owner’s personal journey, blending family traditions, cultural heritage, and a lifelong passion for food. And with a playful narrative of a typical Thai lunchtime, this adds a nice touch of authenticity.

The menu’s chatty tone of voice and clear structure make ordering easy, and bold ‘favourites’ help to nudge indecisive diners in the right direction. The hybrid squid-meets-floral illustrations – a quirky attempt to bring the name into the visual identity – were, perhaps, a little odd. Lunch was the Salt & Pepper Tapas set, well portioned, swiftly served, ideal for a laid-back lunch, though the massaman curry could’ve done with a bit more chicken.
All in all, Giggling Squid is a nice example of how to be distinctive without overthinking it. The tentacled logo alone is a refreshing contrast to the usual stripped-back sans serifs – a reminder that sometimes, a little fun (or dare we say, a giggle) is allowed.
